Healthy Snack Swaps For Kids
I was out with a good friend the other day and she was feeling guilty about being a “mean mom” as her daughter put it.
As a way to protect her daughter from the onslaught of junk food everywhere kids turn today, my friend found herself having to say “NO” to chocolates, chips, ice cream, etc.
The result? Her child started sneaking junk food behind her mom’s back.
My friend is not alone. I too was a “mean parent”.
When you know about the type of food additives allowed in food product manufacturing, it’s hard to just sit back and allow your kids to eat these so-called “treats”.
Trust me, I get it. And I feel your frustration.
So what’s a “mean parent” to do?
You find the middle ground. That means finding or making the healthier alternative to anything they ask for. (See the infograph above for some examples)
THIS is one of the primary reasons why I wrote my book “UNJUNK“: How to raise healthy eaters in a processed world.
I want to teach parents and their children how to navigate the food industry, how to understand ingredients, and ultimately, how to find the better alternatives because the food industry is one giant unregulated mess so it’s up to us parents to take control of our family’s health by making better choices.
The release of my book has faced some challenges last year given these crazy unpredictable times, but I’m hopeful it will be in your hands soon enough.
