Immune Support When Getting Sick

When the body begins to fight an illness—whether viral, fungal, or bacterial—the goal is to strengthen the immune system by providing it with the right support to overcome the challenge.

Here are things to avoid at the first sign of illness:

❌ Taking cold & flu pain relievers to push through the day
❌ Engaging in intense exercise
❌ Consuming refined sugar, which further weakens immunity

To support children who are getting sick, please refer to this protocol.

AT THE FIRST SIGN OF GETTING SICK: (i.e. feeling run down, scratchy throat, etc)

  • Arabinogalactans (from larch tree): Helps support natural killer cells.
    • 1 tsp, 3x per day mixed in filtered water or fresh-squeezed orange juice for up to 7 days (though often only needed for 2–3 days)
  • If you suspect you have a virus or flu symptoms, please refer to this protocol for more targeted viral support.

IF ILLNESS CONTINUES TO PROGRESS, ADD SYSTEMIC IMMUNE SUPPORT FOR UP TO 7 DAYS:

  • Vitamin D3 – 10,000 IU per day, taken in the morning with food as needed for up to 7 days. Optional: If a headache occurs, 200-400 mg of magnesium glycinate may help support Vitamin D activation and relax muscles.
  • Vitamin A – 10,000 IU per day of a fully-formed retinoid like retinol palmitate (not beta-carotene), taken once daily with food as needed for up to 7 days. Alternatively, a small amount of high-quality organic liver (e.g., 1 ounce or ~2 Tbsp pâté) can be consumed daily.
  • Zinc – 50 mg of zinc citrate or picolinate per day, taken in split doses toward the end of a meal (to prevent nausea) for up to 7 days.

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT (OPTIONAL):

  • Liposomal Vitamin C – 1,000–2,000 mg per day (or up to bowel tolerance), divided into multiple doses as needed for up to 7 days.

Note: Higher doses may cause bowel stimulation. Alternatively, intravenous Vitamin C infusions (available at holistic or functional medical facilities) provides a more aggressive immune boost and avoids gastrointestinal disturbances.

  • Broad-Spectrum Multi-Strain Probiotic – supports immune cell function. During illness, the dosage can be doubled: one capsule in the morning and one in the evening with food, for up to 7 days.

HYDRATION & RECOVERY RECOMMENDATIONS:

✅ Stay Hydrated –Drink filtered water and incorporate natural antimicrobials like ginger and turmeric tea. To prepare:

  • Boil water, add fresh ginger and turmeric, then reduce heat and steep for 20+ minutes.
  • Add Manuka honey & crushed black pepper to enhance absorption.

✅ Listen to Hunger Cues – If there’s no appetite, avoid eating to allow the body to focus on healing. If food is needed, opt for liquids like:

  • Soup and chicken bone broth with rice to provide easy-to-digest nourishment
  • Avoid forcing food — let the body dictate its needs

✅ Rest & Stay Warm – Conserve energy by prioritizing rest and warmth to support the healing process.

Following these recommendations can help stop illness early or significantly reduce its duration and severity.
