Probiotic Rick Kefir Smoothie
If you’re looking to add more probiotic-rich foods to your family’s diet, kefir is one of the easiest additions.
Milk kefir is a probiotic-rich drink made by fermenting milk kefir “grains” – a culture of beneficial bacteria and yeast – with dairy or coconut milk.
If you’re sensitive to dairy or coconut milk, then water kefir is another option but you’ll need water kefir grains instead of milk kefir grains.

The hardest part is getting kefir grains:
In the UAE, join the UAE culture club on Facebook to find someone willing to share kefir grains or buy them from Healthy Living (discount code BKBRN on their kombucha starters).
In the US, visit culturesforhealth.com to buy dehydrated starters. Also check for them on Amazon & iHerb.
????A few important notes:
1️⃣ Don’t let your kefir grains touch metal (hence the plastic strainer)
2️⃣ Don’t rinse your kefir grains in tap water
3️⃣ Fermentation time depends on the temperature of your kitchen. The hotter it is, the less time it needs (~8-12 hours vs. 24 hours in colder weather).
4️⃣ Storing my kefir in the fridge halts fermentation drastically when I don’t feel like making it daily
5️⃣ I store my extra grains in a small glass jar of milk in the freezer to share with family, friends, and clients
Hope this encourages you to give it a go!
