Beyond Cholesterol: What Really Causes Heart Attacks?
In today’s clip from the session with Dr. Stephen Hussey, we explore what really drives heart attacks — and why cholesterol isn’t the main culprit.
Dr. Hussey explains that heart health is less about your lipid numbers and more about blood flow and clotting. Think of your circulatory system like a hydraulic system: blood is meant to move smoothly. When flow is disrupted, blood can become sticky or stagnant, increasing the risk of clots forming — and that’s what contributes to plaque in arteries.
He also highlights how damage to arterial linings, slow blood flow, and sticky blood elements all play key roles in atherosclerosis. Surprisingly, studies show that up to 87% of arterial plaque is actually clotting tissue, similar to what forms when your skin scabs to stop bleeding.
🎥 Watch the clip to understand why looking at cholesterol alone can be misleading, and how maintaining proper flow and repair mechanisms is essential for heart health.
