@KK glad to hear all is clear with his kidneys. I vaguely recall the details of your son’s case but I do remember that we discussed several possible causes and solutions to try to help rule things out.
Can you please update us with what else you’ve tried since then; what’s worked, what hasn’t worked.
Majority of the time, chronic nausea has to do with histamine intolerance and/or liver dysfunction.
Did you ever try the DAO enzyme before bed to see if that helped his morning nausea?
Since you’re in Dubai, I’d also like to recommend seeing Dr. Hu at Shanghai Medical Clinic for a consultation. He’s a senior Chinese herbalist and acupuncturist. He assesses the body by looking at the tongue and pulse on the wrists. His treatments usually involve a concoction of customized Chinese herbs and acupuncture. He’s excellent and worth a visit.

@Annie Sye appendix pain is usually higher up; half way between the belly button and the top of the right hip bone. But definitely get this checked out by a doc.
In case of a UTI, another member just recently asked the same question but during pregnancy. You can read my response HERE (click on ‘leave a comment’ or the title to be taken to the post thread).

Hi @Misha – yes, you can find the link to that video HERE from our Interpreting Basic Blood Chemistry course.

@Amliv Sotomayor I personally wouldn’t unless my child didn’t get better
-
@Amliv Sotomayor usually 1/3rd to half the adult dose
-
@Amliv Sotomayor Therbiotic Kids doesn’t have S Boulardii which is what’s recommended when someone is taking antibiotics to prevent yeast overgrowth. It’s a different formula to ABx Support for example.

MemberApril 15, 2024 at 8:08 am in reply to: The Gut : Our Second Brain Documentary on Prime Video@Naveed Aslam I am planning on bringing in Dr. Sabine Hazan as a guest to discuss exactly that! She’s the one who patented the globally used and recognized covid treatment protocol when we were in the middle of the pandemic. She came up with that treatment because she saw the impact it had on the microbiome.
As a gastroenterologist and researcher, she noticed how those with low bifido bacteria (or none at all) experienced the worst Covid symptoms. And those who said they never got Covid had the highest levels. This is groundbreaking!!
She’s also been researching Parkinson’s and has found similarities. She’s being heavily censored and her research grants are being taken away… it’s such a saga.
I plan on having her in B Better to talk all about this.

@Amliv Sotomayor no – do not give him the natural antimicrobials if you’re giving him the antibiotics.
You didn’t mention if antibiotics were given so I was proving other natural options just in case.
HERE is the protocol that can support antibiotic therapy.

@Amliv Sotomayor glad you got him checked. Knowing that it’s bacterial, I’m sure he was prescribed antibiotics. That’s always an option when necessary. We have an antibiotic support protocol if needed.
Here are other antimicrobial options available that I’ve used successfully in addition to all the systemic immune support:
-Swallowing high dose ADP tablets (emulsified oregano) but they’re too hard and big for kids along with sucking on them
-Biocidin spray and oral drops
-Silver Hydrosol
-Salt/Turmeric gargles
Hope your little guy feels better soon!

@Annie Sye
Regarding melatonin. Look for one that is slow release/extended release, and it should be taken 30-45 mins before bed to help with falling asleep and staying asleep longer.
Glutathione is a wonderful antioxidant and detoxifier, but not everyone does well since it’s sulfur based. If you decide to give it, remove any other variables (like adding any new foods or supplements) and monitor how he does with it. It should not be taken at least 5 hours before bed as it can be stimulating to some.
Yes, it’s either or. You don’t want to give too many B’s at once.
So the qEEG scan is non-invasive and very easy to have done. You basically wear a “hat” that has electrodes on it that measures brain activity. Once results are back, neurologist can put together a protocol which usually involves neurofeedback. It’s an excellent tool for anyone with brain health issues. It’s done wonders for my own son who was diagnosed with Type 4 ADD and had learning difficulties. I can’t praise it enough.
Regarding the amalgam filling which contains toxic mercury. If he’s considering removal, it’s absolutely essential that he gets it removed by a biological dentist using the SMART protocol. You can look for a certified dentist in your area HERE. Also discuss your brother’s case with the dentist and if now is the right time for him, because it should be done from a place of strength. Optimizing immune function is also part of the protocol before removal, but a qualified biological dentist will know this and guide you through the process.

@Annie Sye thanks for sharing the list of symptoms you’ve experienced. Each one provides a piece of a puzzle and helpful clues.
For example, your symptoms of rosacea, achy joints, general inflammation, anxiety, and severe nausea during pregnancy (from possible histamine overload) make me suspicious of some form of gut infection like SIBO, yeast overgrowth, H Pylori overgrowth, etc. If budget allows, you may want to consider getting a comprehensive functional stool test like the GI map for example. You can learn more about this test HERE from the Gut Health Masterclass course.
I’d also then question your immune nutrients vitamin D, vitamin A and RBC zinc levels. These are tested in blood.
Your symptoms of enlarged thyroid, loss of hair and eyebrows, and holding weight in the lower abdomen are definitely reasons to be running a full thyroid panel including antibodies. Here’s a video with the markers to check from our Thyroid Balance course.
But both digestive and thyroid dysfunction are often secondary to adrenal dysfunction and blood sugar dysregulation. Back pain, PCOS, masculinization & testosterone spike, “stress sweating” (aka an adrenaline response), and feeling sleepy with caffeine make me suspicious of blood sugar status and adrenal health (which can be impacted by diet and/or chronic stress)
Here’s a video with the makers for blood sugar testing from our Blood Sugar Regulation course. Can you describe your typical diet?
And to test adrenal health, I prefer a urine test called DUTCH Adrenal. I discuss functional adrenal testing HERE from the Adrenal Balance course.
And given the cramps you experience, testing RBC Magnesium would also be a good idea.
In addition to the above, I would get what is considered in the US an “annual physical” which consists of a CBC with differentials + full CMP. These can provide a lot of insights when assessing it from a functional lens. For a list of markers, you can scroll to p.5 in this handout for the breakdown of the panels.
Let me know if you have questions.

@Amliv Sotomayor you’re already doing a great job with all the immune support and natural antiviral support with elderberry in the Needed Immune Support. I also like to add arabinogalactans into the mix. That’s usually my initial go-to, which helps boost natural killer cells.
In addition, if you’re sure it’s a viral infection, you can also consider homeopathic support (Oscillococcinum) since it’s still in the early stages:
At the first sign of viral/flu symptoms, consider the homeopathic remedy Oscillococcinum which is clinically proven to reduce the duration and severity of flu symptoms such as body aches, headache, fever, chills, and fatigue.
Recommended dosage as per Boiron’s instructions:
Children 2 years of age and older: Dissolve entire contents of one tube in the mouth every 6 hours, up to 3 times a day. Reduce frequency to once or twice a day as symptoms improve.
As for the cough, you can try the “Hot Seven” homeopathic magnesium cell salt which can help ease spasms/coughing:
Schuessler’s cell salt No. 7 – Magnesium Phosphoricum 6x:
Prepare the “Hot Seven” which has proven to be fast-acting and effective against acute aches and cramps/spasms:
Put 10 tablets into a teacup and pour boiling water over them.
Stir the tablets with a teaspoon until they have completely dissolved.
Once it’s cooled a little, sip the hot solution slowly. Hold each mouthful for a few seconds before swallowing in order to facilitate absorption through the mucus membranes of the mouth.
The “Hot Seven” is usually very effective at relieving non-stop dry coughing. If it’s not enough, I’d suggest reviewing the Lung Health protocol HERE and look at the different herbs that can help based on the description of his type of cough. For example, if he’s having trouble breathing due to the coughs, then Lobelia is a go-to. If there’s mucous, Elecampane would be helpful. Take a look at the list and let me know if you have any questions, but hopefully the homeopathic support above will be enough.

@Annie Sye thanks for the additional info. I’ll touch on the most important ones to address:
Is your family now beginning to see the connection between his diet and his condition? We MUST find a way to get your brother to agree to a strict gluten-free diet. Does he like to read? Would sharing the studies on the connection between gluten and schizophrenia help? Third party credibility is very powerful with family members… is there perhaps a friend or someone he looks up to that can convince him? You know him best… what would be the best angle to help him realize that gluten, at this stage in his life, is hurting him?
I like the idea of making his favorite foods at home. And I agree that finding tasty alternatives will make or break your efforts. Here’s an article I found on a celiac website that shares the best gluten-free bun brands you can try.
If your mom thinks he likes to eat out for the experience, I would also suggest looking for gluten-free/dairy-free restaurants and cafés in your area and encourage him to try those instead. As a rule of thumb, avoid chains & franchises for better health when dining out. I know you know this, but again, it’s a matter of getting him to realize that he can still enjoy going out but choosing places and foods that will help him, not hurt him.
If it’s going to be a while before your brother can move out of the moldy home, I strongly recommend buying him an ultra HEPA air purifier for his bedroom (and wherever else he spends the most time in the house). I can’t remember if we already spoke about this in previous threads. If not, let me know and I can share more. You can also watch THIS video from the Beginner’s Health Roadmap which discusses different air filter brand options.
Dr. Jill also has a very practical and affordable course HERE on what to do if still living in mold. Use code BBETTER for 10% off.
Just confirming that the melatonin is being given before bed correct?
You’re correct about the dosage range of l-theanine. Split the dose if you’re going to increase it. So morning and evening for example.
I wouldn’t be surprised if methylation is compromised. That’s a big part of detoxification and what helps us produce glutathione, our most potent antioxidant and detoxifier. And that’s why it’s so important for him to be living away from the moldy home as soon as possible. Avoidance is the #1 rule for mold detox.
Question about his bowel movements. I like the fact that he’s not constipated and is having regular bowel movements, but I question whether or not he’s fully emptying his bowels each time. But since he isn’t constipated, supporting methylation with a low dose methylated B complex might be something worth considering, or a detox formula that has a little bit of B’s and amino acids to support both phase 1 and phase 2 detox. For example, something like Integrated Therapeutics Detoxification Factors. But low and slow is the name of the game anytime detoxification is involved. I briefly touch on methylation and how important B vitamins are to the process in THIS VIDEO if you care to understand it better.
Sweating is also very important for both heavy metal and mold detoxification. Does he exercise by any chance? If not, a portable low-EMF sauna like this one where his head is not being heated, might also be something to consider to help with detoxification. Here’s some literature showing how it can be beneficial. Just keep in mind that he’ll need to hydrate before and especially after, along with electrolytes to remain well hydrated.
Finally, I would also encourage you to look into neurofeedback sessions. If the SPECT scan is out of budget at the moment, as an alternative you can look for a clinic that offers a qEEG scan and neurofeedback.
Let me know if you have any questions.
