Hi – Suntegrity is a non-toxic brand that offers SPF 50 for face and body. I haven’t tried it so check reviews about its application.
But I’ll also encourage you to focus on “internal” sunblock protection by consuming lots of antioxidant-rich foods and avoiding vegetable seed oils, fried foods, and sugar/sweeteners.
I personally take astaxanthin (Dr. Mercola brand) on and off every few months. PQQ is another powerful antioxidant. Seeking Health is a good brand.
I hope this helps.

@Naja hmmm.. you’re really making me think. So much has become available in Dubai that my list has definitely shrunk. But I still make it a point to buy:
• pure organic vanilla (they only sell pure vanilla pods or imitation vanilla here).
• I also usually stock up on supplements that require refrigeration like probiotics, glutathione. But I also order my immune support supplements & medicine cabinet must-haves like Active Skin Repair.
• Nail polish. I’ll usually buy a few different colors from Whole Foods (Mineral Fusion brand) – especially the base coat.
• Hemp seeds. We sprinkle it over yogurt, salads, etc.
• Sea Snax (seaweed snacks). I get the plain olive oil one. And with onion.
• If I have space, I’ll also stock up on our personal hygiene products as well (deodorant, mouth wash, toothpaste, etc).If you have a Whole Foods nearby, just browse the isles… it might spark more ideas of what we might not have over here.
Hope this helps.

Hi – what I’ve been learning about dog health is that it is very similar to human health.
I’m so happy to have found Pawdega in Dubai with shipping all around the world. I was in discussion with the founder to discuss ways that we can collaborate – I want more people to know about this great company and benefit from their holistic pet health products and services.
You can chat with them about your pet’s needs and they will direct you to the right products. For deworming, they offer this product for example (No More Worms). I would pair it with their probiotic for dogs because at the end of the day, it’s our pet’s immune system that should be able to keep things balanced and prevent infections, and it’s our/their microbiome health that helps modulate the immune system.
Enjoy browsing through their site and chatting with them.

Hi @naslam1603 – if you’re not convinced, I would contact https://iseai.org/find-a-professional/ and ask them for a referral to a UK mold inspector which I shared in the “Getting Professional Help” section of the mold course.
When I was putting this course together, I reached out to them to see if there’s a similar database for the UK. Below was their response. Maybe you can contact some of the ones mentioned below for a referral:
Hi Bernadette,
Thank you for reaching out to us!I am unfamiliar with any similar directory in the UK or Middle East. However, you might reach out to some of the inspectors on our list and see if they have any recommendations.
There are some IEP members who have been in the field for quite some time and may be knowledgeable on international support (such as Michael Schrantz, Larry Schwartz, Bill Weber, and Max McCord).
I believe that ACAC does have some certified professionals internationally so you could also check their website. It’s important to note though that not all professionals on their list understand environmentally acquired illness to the same extent as ISEAI professionals.
Additionally, there are a couple of ISEAI members who are health professionals located in the UK (see searchable map here). Oliver Barnett comes to mind but there are others. If you reach out, they might have suggestions on UK inspectors.
Hope this information is helpful. We aim to one day expand our reach to help more people internationally, as we do get a fair amount of inquiries from other countries.
Kind regards,

Hi @DXB – I’m assuming the doctor’s ruled out the genetic condition hemochromatosis since his iron level seems normal in this test you shared, correct? I ask because high ferritin from iron overload can cause fatty liver, and vice versa.
And was he diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease?
Were his blood sugar levels (fasting insulin, fasting glucose, HbA1C) ever measured? Was a full thyroid test done?
Let’s start there…

@Naja I get Klaire Labs Therbiotic Complete as a broad-spectrum and Megaspore from time to time.
I get Seeking Health’s Liposomal Glutathione.
-
@Naja ah yes! Forgot to include them as well. I usually like to have stinging nettle leaf (anti-histamine & HPA axis regulation), dandelion root (liver/gallbladder support), red raspberry (helps uterus), oat straw (minerals) on hand. You can also get these calming herbs to help wind down in the evening or if stress is an issue for you.
I love their essential oils too. I always have tea tree oil on hand. But also these other antifungal essential oils if mold is an issue. I made an anti-fungal nasal spray for my husband when he struggled with mold.
I get the Simply Organic brand of Madagascar vanilla.
For deodorant, my kids like the Schmidt’s brand (lime and activated charcoal), and my husband likes the Routine Cream baking soda free.
Anything that doesn’t ship to Dubai directly, I use a mail forwarding service like Boxit4Me or Shop&Ship. They provide a US mailing address, and then forward the packages to Dubai for a fee.

AdministratorMarch 22, 2023 at 5:53 am in reply to: URGENT – DOCTOR RECOMMENDATION@Naja The only 2 functional gynecologists I know of are Dr. Liliana Skorski at Health Bay. And another one (I have yet to meet her though) at Hope Health and Healing integrative medical clinic.
As for dental work, Dr. Roze Bio Health clinic is my go-to for all dental and oral health requirements. They are very pricey, but their approach is biological and top of the line.
A general practitioner with a functional approach… I can recommend Dr. Lilya Chubb at Hope Health and Healing, and Dr. Makk at Zia Medical Center. Both however do not do direct billing – so it’s pay and claim back if you have insurance.
Hope this helps.

AdministratorMarch 21, 2023 at 6:01 am in reply to: URGENT – DOCTOR RECOMMENDATIONAh @Naja 🤗 you gave me goosebumps. I’m so thankful and glad to hear that your husband is being well taken care of with Dr. Saad.
He is amazing. He moved from Lebanon recently, and wanted to bring a new technology to the American Hospital – one of which would benefit my son’s visual line tracking issues. But unfortunately, he’s not been able to get through all the politics at the hospital regarding insurance, etc. It’s such a shame that they prevent good doctors who want to help their patients.
Do let us know if there’s anything else we can do to support you and your husband.

@DXB it usually has to be lifelong, but taking supplement breaks is also encouraged using the pulse method. Increase it when needed, back off when sufficient.

@DXB so MTHFR is a defect in a gene that controls a process called methylation (see image below). It’s not related to hemochromatosis. The methylation process needs B vitamins and helps with detoxification, DNA, RNA, etc. Impaired methylation increases the risk of both cardiovascular disease and cancer.
You can see in the image that homocysteine is produced as a result of the methylation cycle (bottom of the circle in blue). This is something that we commonly measure in blood.
High homocysteine is indicative of methylation issues due to MTHFR or a need for B vitamins (especially B12, B9 and B6) and protein absorption for example.
The A1298C variant does not tend to affect homocysteine levels as much. And the C677T variant is more associated with cardiovascular impact and detoxification (via glutathione which is another byproduct of methylation like homocysteine).
Optimal homocysteine is between 6-7. So if this marker hasn’t been measured and there’s a history of cardiovascular disease in the family along with an MCV >90 fL on a CBC, it’s a good idea to measure it given that you know about this genetic SNP (pronounced “snip”).

@DXB thanks for sharing. This is where “normal” reference ranges can miss out on big clues.
The thyroid numbers, although they are clinically “normal” are suboptimal. Both Free T4 and Free T3 are on the lower end. We like to see these in the upper half of the reference range. Does he present with low thyroid symptoms? Here’s a video you can watch on that. If the video isn’t loading (UAE is facing a technical issue), here’s the dropbox link to that video. Low thyroid function can absolutely lead to NAFLD.
Also, they did not measure fasting glucose or fasting insulin. I would strongly encourage you to investigate fasting glucose, fasting insulin and HbA1C, taken together, first thing in the morning after a 12-hour fast (only water allowed), and go on a day that represents a typical normal day. No stressful conversations or feeling rushed, as stress will affect these markers.

@alswaidyah thanks for sharing your list of prospective schools – I’m sure it will be helpful to other members looking to pursue functional medicine.
