Supplements timings

Hi @Bernadette_Abraham

I hope your start of the week is going well and you are in the best of health!

I wanted to give an update and get some further guidance please.

Mentally I’m calmer now, but my digestion is obviously still slow since also cutting down the support to once a day. DGL and zinc carnosine seem okay, but the enzymes appear to be bothering me, so I’ve paused them completely last two days, bitters I’m back to on tongue only also once a day. I’m also now on a homeopathic plan of taking Histaminum in LM2 daily for a while.

Would it make sense to increase zinc carnosine to twice a day for support in this phase? As I feel the histamine overload is still at play and gut needs some help to follow the calm.

The DAO, Quercetin, and ProBiotaX are arriving tomorrow, and I’d love your guidance on how to layer them along with everything else going on this phase. Maybe calming the histamine overload first? Not sure, would love your advice please.

I read the Seeking Health leaflet (excellent read thank you) about DAO and noticed it mentioned:

• Taking DAO around duloxetine could reduce its activity

• Taking DAO for gut dysbiosis on an empty stomach (morning, between meals, and/or night?)

• Taking ProBiota first thing in the morning?

I’m trying to organize how to introduce them slowly while considering duloxetine which I take in the evening between 5-6pm (usually it’s two hours after eating and before dinner too so I’ve even timed supplements away from it- just confused with all the new additions) and also the reintroduction of everything else, I’d really appreciate your advice on the order and timing to help gradually take the load off and slowly reintroducing all, while current priority is to reduce the histamine overflow as it’s my biggest concern right now.

I wanted to add this to the previous conversation but the app and web aren’t allowing me so had to create a new thread!

Thank you so much.

    Hi @R-S,

Thank you for sharing all this. I can see how carefully you’re tuning into your system right now, and that level of awareness really matters in this phase. After everything your body has been processing, the most supportive thing you can do is keep things simple and predictable.

Think of your system like a snow globe that was shaken a bit too much. Nothing inside is damaged, but the flakes are still swirling. You don’t clear that by adding more movement — you clear it by giving the globe enough rest so everything can settle again. That’s the phase you’re in.

Staying with zinc-carnosine once a day is a good idea right now. Increasing anything too quickly can feel like stimulation to a system that’s already alert. Once you have a few calm days in a row, you can check in with yourself and decide if you want to increase to twice a day.

For sequencing, the gentlest and clearest order is DAO first, then quercetin, then ProBiotaX. DAO is the easiest starting point because it doesn’t build up in your body (like Bernadette mentioned). it just helps break down histamine in the moment. Quercetin needs time to build, so introduce it after DAO feels stable. ProBiotaX should come last because probiotics can sometimes feel activating until the system adjusts. Give yourself three to five days between each introduction so your body has space to tell you clearly how it feels.

About the spacing with duloxetine: there’s no research showing that DAO interferes with duloxetine or affects how the medication works. DAO stays in the digestive tract and doesn’t impact the brain or the medication’s mechanism. The advice to separate them is mainly a precaution to keep duloxetine’s absorption steady and predictable. A simple spacing rule that works well for most people is to leave about two hours between DAO and your duloxetine. It’s not about danger… just about giving both their own space so your system stays calm.

Quercetin is best taken with food earlier in the day. ProBiotaX usually works well in the morning, unless that’s your most sensitive time, in which case lunch is also completely fine.

Pausing the enzymes was a wise move. When your system feels overstimulated, even helpful things can feel too loud. Once things feel steadier again, you can bring enzymes back once a day with your largest meal. This is important: Digestion doesn’t need to be perfect right now… it needs to feel safe.

The histamine overflow you’re experiencing is probably still linked to the emotional and physical load of the past weeks. Histamine rises whenever the body feels on guard. Your chemistry is just reflecting the state you were in. That’s why the most therapeutic thing right now is simplicity: one supplement at a time, gentle timing, and letting your nervous system lead the way.

And one last thought: sometimes gut symptoms spike because of stress around us, not just inside us. If there was anything or anyone stressful around the time things flared (and only if you feel comfortable!) you’re welcome to share that part too. Not to get emotional, but so we can look at the situation together and maybe give you some tools to handle those dynamics more safely.

Sometimes it’s the environment, not the body, that needs the adjustment.

Daniel, thank you so much for your thoughtful and calm message. I really do appreciate the care behind everything you wrote.

The only thing I’m still struggling with is that I’m in an active histamine flare right now, and it’s not settling at all. Even after taking the Histaminum LM2 and feeling mentally calmer, the physical flare hasn’t shifted. My system still feels extremely heightened, and that’s why I was asking for more immediate guidance on what I can start today, to help take the edge off this reaction as rapid relief.

I fully understand the slower sequencing of DAO → quercetin → ProBiotaX, but I don’t know which one is safe and appropriate to start immediately to calm my system in this moment as rapid relief. That’s the piece I really need clarity on.

Right now the flare is affecting me quite intensely:

      – electric like heat and flushing in my head

      – face puffiness, itching and a rash

      – lips burning, tingling pins and needles everywhere

      – palpitations that aren’t stopping

      – abdominal discomfort and bloating and pinching

      – brain fog and cognitive difficulty, minimal sleep, elevated anxiety of course and irritability

It’s been difficult to manage and that’s why I’ve been waiting for the DAO, quercetin and ProBiotaX, hoping they would at least take the edge off a little.

Emotionally, it really is me. My baseline anxiety has been higher these months with the withdrawal, and the gut disruption has affected me mentally drastically. The last two weeks especially have shaken me because I was supposed to be moving countries to just start again and pick up my life after a year of taking a break and couldn’t do it because I am neither mentally or physically well and it was a heavy reality to face, the restrictive diet for so long is draining me, my gut health is really affecting me and I have been home for months doing nothing but trying to solve my health mentally and physically and this histamine flare just isn’t calming down and I really didn’t need it and it’s like a loop that’s draining me between me trying to find answers and fixing and falling and so forth. So yeah I guess that’s a round up of what’s going on, so generally the struggle is I’m just trying to be okay to be able to get back to living and I’m not. I have the most supportive people around me thankfully however it’s really coming from the inside and I understand that mental health directly impacts the physical health however I am trying to ease the physical a little on myself and it’s just so exhausting to keep being told it’s in my mind while doing everything I can and still not finding relief having to deal with both. Sorry I overshared but that’s where I am emotionally. Thank you for asking really.

If you could please guide me on what I can safely begin immediately today to help bring this flare down until the longer plan can take effect?

Thank you again, I really appreciate all the help.
