Hi Berna, my 7 years old daughter, been loosing a lot of hair since 6 weeks after blood tests work results came; high lymphocytes 62.33 and basophils is high as well 1.13 these are for the percentage differential count, her ferritin is high 102 and the zinc is high 158. She also had last march a skin issue behind her right ear looked like a fungal infection which I have treated at home, but when I stopped the cream now it started showing again, I am just trying to connect things, but am really worried, also she had been sick with fever for two days the week before she has done the tests, we got
corona couple of months ago. My 17 years old results which was done in the same day as my 7 had basophils high as well 1.46 and the monocytes is high 8.15, I do give her vitamins, Just stopped today, we are investigating mold exposure through AC ducts. I am really worried from my google search last night.

Hi – Dr. Google will scare the best of us, and so I just want to put your mind at ease that her labs are not that scary. In fact, it is normal for white blood cells to be higher and differentials to be skewed after an infection (even after a week), and I would not solely rely on these markers since her body was clearly still fighting an infection.
Just for your knowledge, higher basophils can indicate parasitic infection, and higher lymphocytes can indicate acute or chronic viral/bacterial infection.
A high ferritin is also the body’s way of sequestering iron to prevent feeding an infection, so it’s also a normal reaction when someone is sick.
Hair loss after an illness is also unfortunately normal, and usually settles itself in a few months if that was the reason.
But to be proactive, I would recommend retesting her when she’s feeling 100% herself again (if she doesn’t mind being pricked – that’s also a concern with children), and also checking her thyroid markers, and the following markers given the hair loss:
-Thyroid: TSH, Free T4, Free T3, anti-TPO, anti-TG, Reverse T3
-Vitamin A
-Vitamin D
-RBC zinc, copper, ceruloplasmin
-Iron, ferritin, TIBC, % saturation
-Urine test to check if there’s any infectionsIf your finances allow, I really like the OAT test (organic acids) for children. Especially that you suspect yeast overgrowth on her skin, it provides the biggest bang for your buck. It checks yeast and bacterial markers, and gives some indications if mold is present, as well as measures key nutrients needed for methylation and detoxification. It costs $349 USD plus shipping. Dear Bernadette, I couldn’t just say thank you earlier, I wanted to take my time and explain how grateful I am, I know that you hear the sentence “thank you” a lot and everyday, many people think holistic practitioners have extra time or nothing to do, so they can always help online and many question why they wouldn’t answer or diagnose online thinking that it won’t take from their time, long story short, last night i went crazy from my daughter’s blood work results, couldn’t sleep kept searching, me and my husband were waiting for the morning to go to the doctor office, the doctor just said don’t worry there’s nothing I wasn’t relieved till I saw your report, I want to let everyone know, for people who care about details your answer wasn’t just an answer, it was full report of probabilities, causes, reading the results, analysing, setting future plan to investigate further and sending out needed tests plan, which made us go back to the doctor to ask him to write for the urine and stool tests today, I felt lucky that I had a doctor a message away.
